Air Brake Program

Students of the North Peace Commercial Driving Academy will begin their training by taking part in a one-day Alberta Government-approved air brake course ahead of beginning the Class 1 MELT training. By completing this course, students will be eligible to obtain a Q endorsement on their driver's license.

Obtaining the Q endorsement requires an individual to successfully complete 6.5 hours of classroom training, followed by a practical training session. The training session requires each student to practice the air brake pre-trip inspection twice. Once these two steps are completed, students will be then expected to successfully complete the practical assessment within the 15-minute allotted time limit.

Only after all three of these course requirements have been met, will students be issued a Notice of Air Brake Program Completion form. This form allows the individual to go to any Alberta registry agent and take the driver knowledge test.
