Air Brake Program

Students of the North Peace Commercial Driving Academy will begin their training by taking part in an Alberta Government-approved air brake course ahead of beginning the Class 1 New Learning Pathway. By completing this course, students will be eligible to obtain a Q endorsement on their driver's license.

Obtaining the Q endorsement requires an individual to successfully complete 6.5 hours of classroom training, followed by a practical training session. The training session requires each student to practice the air brake pre-trip inspection twice. Once these two steps are completed, students will be then expected to successfully complete the practical assessment within the 15-minute allotted time limit.

Only after all three of these course requirements have been met, will students be issued a Notice of Air Brake Program Completion form. This form allows the individual to go to any Alberta registry agent and take the driver knowledge test. Once the test is successfully completed a Q endorsement can be added to their license.
